Staying compliant with your identity documents is essential for all Abu Dhabi residents. With the Emirates ID being the most critical document for banking, health insurance, and travel, renewing it on time is a top priority.
When should you renew?
You should start your renewal process at least 30 days before the expiry date. Once the card expires, you have a 30-day grace period, after which a fine of AED 20 per day applies (up to a maximum of AED 1,000).
Requirements for 2026:
Original Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months.
Valid Residency Visa: Your ID renewal is directly linked to your visa status.
Old Emirates ID Card: For verification.
Personal Photo: White background (meeting ICP standards).
